Antique Irish Pennies, called Pingins, feature a mother hen protecting
her clutch and the traditional Irish Harp. Although the modern pennies
feature the hen and chicks, the antique ones also have a split date on
the reverse, framing the floral Harp. From 1928 until 1972 these coins
were in circulation.
Yet this, original, large penny, was only made from 1928 until
1968, and not every year. Some years production ceased due either to
depression, or war. Then, in 1971 Ireland switched to the decimal
system and issued a new Penny design, forever changing the look of
the lucky penny.
Your Lucky Irish Penny pendant includes a 20″ silver
chain like the one pictured below. The coin will feature a specific year,
but the luck of the Irish will decide what year you get!
