Lucky 7’s – Big Money! – Coin Pendant Necklace
This 1 Krone Norwegian coin was minted with a hole, lovingly called The Significant Nothing. After the dissolution of the Norway+Sweden union, Norway decided to make holed coins to differentiate their currency, so the lack of center is a significant nothing! The sevens on the face of the coin are an homage to Haakon VII, King of Norway from 1905 until his death in 1957. As the first King of the Independent Norway after more than 500 years, Haakon VII was considered a lucky king. He ruled through the political upheavals of the early 20th centuries, side-stepping revolution with political clout and good moral judgement. He protected his people though both World Wars, successfully resisting German pressures. He died peacefully in 1957, loved by the Norwegians as a moral authority in political and personal matters. His son Olav V took up the crown and passed it to his son, the current king, Harald V in 1991.
