Buried Treasure in 2023

About 2100 years ago a cache of nearly 500 Celtic gold coins were minted and stowed.

In 1999 the treasure was uncovered, then acquired by the Keltenmuseum in Germany.

The coins’ value amounted to several million euros (adjusted for inflation).

After a peaceful existence, under the soft museum lights, the coins were burgled in 2022.

In July of 2023, four culprits were arrested.

Of the 483 Celtic coins, the police have only recovered melted gold nuggets equal to the weight of 70 coins, but the remaining treasure appears to have been reburied.

A thorough search of the thieves’ properties has shown no sign of the remaining treasure.

The police have not given up the search.
